Regulatory Assistance

BSAP provides scientific expertise to support environmental compliance and resource protection under state and federal regulations. Our work helps agencies, planners, and engineers meet conservation requirements while maintaining project efficiency and ecological integrity.

We assist with biological evaluations, field surveys, and coordination related to laws and regulations that protect rare species and habitats. BSAP’s goal is to ensure that decisions affecting natural resources are informed by accurate, defensible ecological information.

Areas of Regulatory Support

Threatened & Endangered Species Coordination

Surveys and evaluations supporting compliance with the Illinois Endangered Species Protection Act, the Federal Endangered Species Act, and related conservation agreements.

Environmental Review & Consultation
Mitigation Planning & Evaluation

Development and review of avoidance, minimization, and mitigation strategies that protect habitats and species while meeting regulatory standards.

Permitting Support

Data collection and technical documentation to assist with scientific components of permit applications, including Incidental Take Authorizations and Clean Water Act compliance.

Habitat & Impact Assessments

Field-based assessments to identify sensitive resources, determine potential impacts, and provide recommendations for conservation and restoration actions.

Our Role

BSAP scientists work collaboratively with project proponents, resource managers, and regulatory agencies. We provide the biological data, interpretation, and guidance needed to align project design and implementation with environmental regulations.

Our biologists are known for their objectivity, accuracy, and clear understanding of species ecology and the regulations that protect them.

Outcomes

BSAP’s regulatory assistance ensures that:

  • Biological assessments are based on defensible science.
  • Regulatory requirements are proactively addressed, avoiding project delays and uncertainties.
  • Projects incorporate avoidance and minimization strategies early in planning.
  • Conservation outcomes are achieved alongside responsible development.

By integrating field expertise, ecological data, and regulatory knowledge, BSAP supports both environmental protection and project success.
