IDOT Partnership
BSAP partners with the Illinois Department of Transportation to conduct statewide surveys of plants and animals associated with transportation projects and natural areas.
Under the direction of IDOT, our work supports responsible infrastructure development that minimizes impacts to Illinois’ natural resources.
BSAP biologists assess proposed project sites to identify protected species and sensitive habitats, providing the scientific foundation for IDOT to avoid, minimize, or mitigate environmental impacts during project planning, design, and construction.
Beyond compliance, our team also assists with long-term monitoring associated with programmatic agreements and contributes to grant development that advances research and conservation initiatives. We conduct targeted studies on rare and declining species, population dynamics, and habitat connectivity within transportation corridors. Together, these efforts expand understanding of Illinois biodiversity and inform conservation and management strategies statewide.
